Vince has 38 years experience in pavement design and materials engineering in the private and public transportation sectors.
Vince has been directly involved in developing QC/QA statistical and end-result specifications with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), and the advancement of new hot mix asphalt technologies in Ontario. More recently, Vince has been advancing the use of the Asphalt Mix Performance Tester (AMPT) for evaluating and improving the performance characteristics of hot mix and warm mix asphalt for airport applications (Greater Toronto Airport Authority - GTAA) and roadway applications for the City of Toronto. He is a proponent of Balanced Mix Design (BMD) to improve pavement performance.
His areas of expertise in materials include: Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mix design and testing (Superpave & Marshall); Warm Mix Asphalt design; RAP Mix design; Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) mix design; HMA plant production and paving quality control/quality assurance and aggregate testing. He is knowledgeable in geotechnical investigation, non-destructive deflection testing (FWD), in-place pavement recycling and full depth reclamation, asphalt performance testing, pavement evaluations, forensic studies and life cycle cost analysis.
Vince has instructed pavement design, pavement preservation, hot mix asphalt best practices and technology courses for OHMPA, ORBA and CAPTG and various other key industry forums. He has authored and/or co-authored approximately 30 peer reviewed papers and reports, and has made numerous keynote presentations on pavement materials and design across Canada and in the U.S.
